Taivon Jacobs has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes over several top schools in a move that is huge for Urban Meyer’s 2013 class. Jacobs can play at defensive back or wide receiver, but he projects better as a wide receiver.

His commitment to OSU is viewed as a surprise to some, as many thought the popular three-star recruit would play for Randy Esdall and the Maryland Terrapins.

Jacobs is 5’11″, 165 pounds and runs a 4.4 forty and a 4.19 shuttle time with a terrific 34-inch vertical. The District Heights, Maryland standout has also received offers from Boston College, West Virginia, Michigan State, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Miami, Nebraska, UNC, N.C. State, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest.

The 20th best recruit in Maryland had narrowed his choices to three teams in West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio State before announcing his decision to commit to OSU this morning.

Ohio State gets an extremely fast and athletic recruit in Taivon Jacobs, who has good potential as either a receiver or corner. His athleticism looks good on the defensive side, but he looks like a more defined receiver on tape and will likely produce better at that position.

The Columbus-bound receiver from Maryland is 247Sports’s 60th-ranked athlete and camped at OSU a month ago. Jacobs has the raw talent to make an impact for the Big Ten powers down the road and has certainly been a highly sought after recruit. Jacobs said that his goal with his new team is to win the National Championship, and the Zach Smith recruit has the chance to help them do it. Look for him to show his speed as a returner for the Buckeyes.
