Four-star safety Antonio Allen recently decommitted from Ole Miss, and he is currently looking at three Big Ten teams in Purdue, Michigan State, and Indiana with the Hoosiers at the top. Allen is the 20th best safety in the 2013 class, but many recruiting sites differ on where they have the Ben Davis High star. 247Sportsrates him as a three-star, while Rivals.com ranks him as the 200th best recruit in the nation.
In my eyes, Antonio Allen is one of the top five recruits in Indiana, a top 250 recruit, and a four-star recruit. He is a great tackler who makes up for his lack of size (5’10″, 200 pounds) with his toughness. Allen is a physical safety who has above-average athleticism and can deliver some big hits. He has good range with high-level closing speed, and he is an excellent run stopper at the position. Allen fits at strong safety, and he makes up for his size with his explosiveness.
As far as covering goes, Antonio Allen is solid in zone coverage. He isn’t great by any means, but he more than holds his own in that aspect. He is easily one of the best 50 recruits in the midwest in this 2013 class.
Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, California, Syracuse, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ole Miss, and Purdue have all offered him. That gives Allen 11 offers thus far with five of them coming from the Big Ten. Indiana is at the top for now, and Antonio Allen is being recruited by Doug Mallory (IU), Dave Warner (MSU), and Don Landholm (Purdue).
I encourage you to watch his highlight tape (247Sports, no subscription required), this guy can hit.
