2013 two-star athlete Jerlarius Watkins has named the Louisville Cardinals the favorites in his recruitment, with Marshall and Utah State also teams in his top three. Woody Wommack visited Seminole High in Sanford, Florida yesterday, and he talked to Watkins; the best player on the team. Watkins told him all this, and Wommack believes that he will commit if USF does not offer him.
Jerlarius Watkins has received offers from Louisville, Marshall, Utah State, Florida A&M, Purdue, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Kent State, South Alabama, and Memphis in his recruitment. He has been targeted heavily by Louisville, and he is also high on USF. If the Bulls do reach out to Watkins and offer him, then the complexity of his recruitment changes. But right now, he has an offer from the current top dogs in the Big East (USF is second in the preseason poll), and he is expected to commit to them if USF doesn’t offer. Georgia, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Temple, and Georgia Tech also showed interest in his recruitment.
The Seminole High star does a lot of things for his team, as Jerlarius Watkins rushed for 279 yards on 35 carries with 18 catches for 414 yards. He had ten total touchdowns (six receiving, four rushing) in a season that was cut short to just six games due to a season-ending torn MCL.
Expected to be an all-purpose back at the collegiate level, the 5’11″, 205 pound ATH has also played at quarterback and on defense for Seminole. Jerlarius Watkins has a lot of muscle on him, and the two-star recruit will likely stick at RB and can give a team a big receiving boost out of the backfield. Wommack learned that Watkins will be taking visits in the fall, and hopefully we can watch Watkins play in all eleven games for Seminole after averaging 8.2 yards per carry for the team last year.
