Basketball Recruiting: Xavier Rathan-Mayes Narrows His Options

One of the best shooters in the Class of 2013, Xavier Rathan-Mayes has officially cut his list of schools to five.  ”My top 5 are Baylor, FSU, Uconn, Illinois and Texas no specific order” he tweeted moments ago. Having over thirty scholarship offers, these five programs will be hoping to land this skilled guard. Rathan-Mayes is a talented 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Canada who plays his high school basketball at national powerhouse Huntington Prep (WV) alongside fellow Canadian Andrew Wiggins.

Rathan-Mayes is a deadly shooter from beyond the arc and has a very consistent mid-range jumper while complimenting his perimeter game with the ability to get to the basket and create for his teammates and himself. He had a terrific summer playing with the CIA Bounce AAU program forming a dynamic backcourt with recent Syracuse commit Tyler Ennis. He helped his team achieve a #1 U17 ranking by while reaching the Nike Peach Jam Final and going undefeated during the three different Nike EYBL sessions. His Huntington Prep team is loaded with division one prospects and will be competing for a National High School Championship.

Whichever school Rathan-Mayes chooses, that program will be getting a terrific talent who will be able to contribute immediately during his freshmen campaign because of his shooting ability. We will just have to wait and see which school gets lucky…
