On Sunday, Jay Wright and Villanova received their first committment for the Class of 2013 in combo forward Kris Jenkins. He chose the Villanova Wildcats over Xavier, Miami, Rutgers and Clemson. One of the top power forwards in the country, Kris Jenkins is a physical 6-foot-6 forward playing at Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C. alongside UNC point guard commit Nate Britt.
Jenkins is slighty undersized for the power forward position, but he uses his physicality and motor to make up for his height. Jenkins has a college-ready body which will allow him to contribute right away during his freshmen campaign at Villanova. Although undersized, Jenkins does most of his scoring inside with several very skilled post moves and he has the ability to score over taller players. He compliments his skilled inside post game with his perimeter shooting ability from beyong the arc. Because of his perimeter skills and shooting stroke, Jenkins will also see major minutes at the small forward position, causing mismatches all over the court.
Kris Jenkins will be a key player in rebuilding the Villanova program to where it was a few years ago. Look for other local recruits to join Jenkins at Villanova. In getting a talented player like Jenkins, Jay Wright will now focus his time on adding some skilled guards for his Class of 2013.
