Football Recruiting: Jalen Hurd Commits to Tennessee

2014 running back Jalen Hurd verbally committed to the Tennessee Volunteers early in the morning on March 14th. Hurd is the fifth verbal for the Vols from the Class of 2014 and the team’s second of the week.

He had offers from fifteen teams. The teams to have offered at him include: Tennessee, Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Stanford, and Vanderbilt.

Hurd is a 6’3″, 225 pound running back from Hendersonville, Tennessee. He is currently a junior at Beech Senior High School.

The Beech Buccaneers went on to win the Tennessee Class 5A State Championship and finished the season with a perfect 15-0 record. In their title game, they defeated Columbia Central High School, 56-34. Hurd ran for 394 yards and seven touchdowns in that title game. The 2012 championship is the team’s second since 2009.

As a junior in 2012, Hurd ran for 3,357 yards on 317 carries and 43 touchdowns. His 3,357 rushing yards in 2012 set the single-season rushing record for the state of Tennessee. During his entire high school career, he’s recorded 5,422 rushing yards, 69 rushing touchdowns, 437 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

Hurd was named first-team All-American by 247Sports on February 10th.

The four-star recruit is currently ranked 1st in the state of Tennessee, 2nd among running backs, and 10th nationally among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
