Tennessee Football Recruiting: Auburn hosts Cortez McDowell

2014 four-star safety Cortez McDowell will be unofficially visiting the Auburn Tigers today, and the Tigers comprise one of McDowell’s offers from elite SEC programs. Ranked by 247Sports as the 119th best player in the nation and the 247Composite at 206th, McDowell is a reported Tennessee Volunteers lean early on.

Cortez McDowell has also received offers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State Buckeyes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Missouri Tigers, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Vanderbilt Commodores, West Virginia Mountaineers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan State Spartans, Kentucky Wildcats, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Syracuse Orange, Mississippi Rebels, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wisconsin Badgers thrown in an offer as well.

All those offers paint the picture of a four-star recruit, and McDowell is one of the top 25 recruits in the talent-rich state of Georgia. The Locust Grove standout is ranked by 247Sports as one of the top ten safeties in the nation, while the 247Composite clocks McDowell in at 16th overall.

After an unofficial visit to Auburn today, Ohio State will host Cortez McDowell next week in the hopes of increasing their standing early on in the 6’1″, 200 pound safety’s recruitment. He recently attended junior days with Tennessee and UNC, and he also unofficially visited the Vols earlier this month.
