Nearly one day after the Texas Longhorns nabbed the #1 center from the Class of 2014, Auburn followed suit by getting the #4 center to verbally commit on Sunday. That #4 center came in the form of Joshua Casher as he committed to the Tigers on Sunday.
The three-star Mobile, Alabama native had received offers from the Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Memphis Tigers, Southern Miss Golden Eagles, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Vanderbilt Commodores, and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
It was a race between SEC schools for the Alabama recruit as he had offers from four SEC teams and received interest from three others.
The SEC teams that did not offer at him are the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs.
When asked about the commitment, Casher called it the “perfect fit.” He also gave the credit for his commitment to co-offensive coordinator Dameyune Craig.
Craig was the coach from Auburn that was recruiting the three-star center. He played quarterback for the Tigers from 1994-97 and was born in Mobile himself. He became the co-offensive coordinator at Auburn this past offseason after serving as the quarterbacks coach for Florida State in 2012.
Casher is the second verbal for the Tigers from the 2014 class. The other is three-star running back Kamryn Pettway from Prattville, Alabama.
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 17th in the state of Alabama and 4th among centers by 247Sports.
