2014 Ohio native Sam Hubbard received seven offers throughout the month of March, but on April 5th decided where he will be playing his college ball in 2014. Hubbard committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. He became the sixth player from the 2014 class to commit to the Buckeyes and is the fourth commit from Ohio.
Sam Hubbard had received offers from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Boston College Eagles, Illinois Fighting Illini, Louisville Cardinals, Miami (FL) Hurricanes, Miami (OH) RedBirds, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Ohio Bobcats, and Stanford Cardinal.
The Buckeyes are not wasting any time with the Class of 2014. At this moment, their recruiting class is ranked 8th in the entire nation and first in the Big Ten. The two teams directly behind them in the Big Ten rankings are Michigan and Michigan State (both offered at Hubbard).
Hubbard is a tremendous athlete and plays both football and lacrosse at Archbishop Moeller. Last year around this time, Hubbard committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for lacrosse, but decided in 2013 that he will indeed be playing football.
Hubbard spoke with ESPN’s Buckeye Nation and said, “I made my decision in January of my sophomore year and that’s not really giving much thought to football. I hadn’t heard from many schools.”
Notre Dame was interested in Hubbard for football, but never extended an offer to the 2014 recruit.
As a safety in 2012, he recorded 80 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles.
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 12th in the state of Ohio, 25th among athletes, and 239th nationally among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
