2014 four-star Chandler, Arizona weak-side defensive end Qualen Cunningham named the Texas A&M Aggies the leaders in his recruitment way back in late September, and Texas A&M still leads for Cunningham. However, two Pac-12 schools in the USC Trojans and in-state Arizona State Sun Devils are also pressing hard for Cunningham and have a very good chance at landing the Hamilton High standout. Today, the Michigan State Spartans have become the most recent team to offer Cunningham.
The sixth ranked recruit in the 247Composite has also received offers from the Washington Huskies, Boise State Broncos, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Oklahoma Sooners. The Stanford Cardinal, Wisconsin Badgers, UCLA Bruins, and Texas Tech Red Raiders are major programs with interest in Cunningham. It will be interesting to see if the Badgers become the second Big Ten school to offer Cunningham, because they seem to have significant interest.
The 6’4″, 220 pound DE is an excellent pass rusher with great athleticism, and he can bring it on the edge with a 4.65 forty time. He is our 103rd ranked recruit in the nation in the FanSided150, and it is a ranking he definitely deserves. Offers from schools such as Michigan State prove it, and Cunningham’s recruitment is definitely one to watch.
Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin is building an amazing recruiting class in 2014 down in College Station, and many people think Cunningham will be a part of it. USC and Arizona State are teams in his region (and state) to watch closely, though, and you can bet the Sun Devils will do all they can to land the prized in-state recruit on the defensive line.
