Florida Football Recruiting: Reilly Gibbons Commits to Miami (FL)

It was all fun and games on Monday at St. Petersburg Catholic High School in Saint Petersburg, Florida as 2014 offensive tackle Reilly Gibbons announced which college he will play for in 2014. Gibbons poked fun at Miami Heat star, LeBron James, by saying “I’ll be taking my talents to South Beach” as he committed to the Miami Hurricanes.

The four-star recruit had received offers from the Miami Hurricanes, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Cincinnati Bearcats, Clemson Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes, Duke Blue Devils, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Hawaii Warriors, Illinois Fighting Illini, Indiana Hoosiers, Kentucky Wildcats, Massachusetts Minutemen, Mississippi Bulldogs, Missouri Tigers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, North Carolina Tar Heels, Northwestern Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Purdue Boilermakers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, San Diego State Aztecs, South Carolina Gamecocks, South Florida Bulls, Tennessee Volunteers, Vanderbilt Commodores, Virginia Cavaliers, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

With the latest commitment from Gibbons, the Miami Hurricanes now have six commits from the 2014 class (all from the state of Florida). This is also the Canes’ second commitment this April after Kc McDermott verbally committed on April 2nd.

At this moment, Miami’s recruiting class is ranked 9th in the entire nation and second in the ACC.

However, both the Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles are ranked ahead of them (both offered at Gibbons).

At Gibbons’ announcement on Monday, St. Petersburg Catholic’s head coach Steve Dudley spoke very fond of Gibbons’ size and frame.

He stands tall at 6’6″ and weighs a solid 278 pounds. Gibbons has proven that he has the size to play on a BCS team, but Dudley mentioned that it has helped Gibbons become the hard-worker he is today.

The four-star recruit is currently ranked 33rd in the state of Florida and 23rd among offensive tackles in the Class of 2014 by 247Sports.
