Ohio State Football Recruiting: USC offers Alex Bookser

2014 offensive tackle Alex Bookser has a lengthy list of offers from elite programs, and the top 250 recruit added yet another big offer yesterday from the USC Trojans. The Pittsburgh recruit is one of the top 25 offensive tackles in the country and currently holds 12 offers that help prove his ranking as a top 250 player.

The West Virginia Mountaineers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Maryland Terrapins, Virginia Cavaliers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Florida State Seminoles, Pittsburgh Panthers, Michigan State Spartans, Kentucky Wildcats, and Rutgers Scarlet Knights have all offered Bookser. He could also receive more offers from the Big Ten in the near future, as the in-state Penn State Nittany Lions and Wisconsin Badgers have significant interest.

USC is still looking for more offensive tackles in the 2014 class despite already having two commits locked up at the position. In fact, those two tackles are their two highest rated recruits overall among the four commitments in the class. Both Casey Tucker and Jordan Poland are four-star tackles, and Tucker is actually the 67th-rated recruit in the 2014 class in our FanSided150 rankings. Poland also checks in among the top 100 recruits in the nation at 100, and he was a big in-state catch for the Trojans out of La Jolla.

Pittsburgh’s Alex Bookser isn’t a top 150 recruit, but he is a four-star offensive tackle in his own right. USC is up against a number of elite programs like Ohio State, Florida State, and Alabama, so it will be interesting to see if they can add a third four-star OT in Bookser. He attended junior days at Pitt, Maryland, and Virginia in February.

And yes, Bookser is the guy who played that prank on Pitt fans on April Fool’s Day, joking that he committed to the school. Pittsburgh fans were already in an awful mood following their team’s first-round tournament loss that was a blowout, so they weren’t too happy with the in-city’s joke.

Prepare to watch a huge recruiting battle for the sixth-ranked recruit in the state of Pennsylvania in the 247Composite, and I think we’ll see Urban Meyer and Nick Saban go at it hard. Bookser has a terrific 6’6″, 295 pound frame, and I also expect Michigan State to continue to press hard for his services. We’ll see how the tackle-hungry Trojans approach Bookser’s recruitment.
