2014 four-star strong-side defensive end Dewayne Hendrix picked up yet another major offer in his recruitment yesterday, as the SEC’s Mississippi State Bulldogs offered the O’Fallon High standout from the state of Illinois. The rival Mississippi Rebels are among the teams that Hendrix is reportedly high on, and he is also interested in the Tennessee Volunteers, Michigan State Spartans, Kansas State Wildcats, and the in-state Illinois Fighting Illini.
The California Golden Bears, USF Bulls, USC Trojans, Florida Gators, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Indiana Hoosiers, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas Jayhawks, Iowa Hawkeyes, Syracuse Orange, Cincinnati Bearcats, Missouri Tigers, and Vanderbilt Commodores are other major programs that have offered Hendrix. He has interested from other programs of note, and the Michigan Wolverines could be the next storied program to offer Hendrix.
The interesting thing about Mississippi State’s offer is that it comes two days after the four-star DE visited Ole Miss. He is one of the top ten strong-side defensive ends in the nation, as well as one of the top five recruits in the state of Illinois. Hendrix just barely missed our FanSided150 cut, but he is ranked by 247Sports as the 169th best player in the country.
The 6’5″, 251 pound standout for O’Fallon finished his junior season with solid numbers (60 tackles, four sacks, 12 tackles for loss). Hendrix is a prospect keep a close eye on, and he is an absolutely devastating run defender who would be an impact player on the defensive line for any team in the country. The schools that have offered him are all pressing hard for Hendrix, which is why the five teams he seems to be the highest on are in a terrific position.
