2014 three-star cornerback Mazzi Wilkins added another notable offer to his list yesterday, as the Connecticut Huskies decided to offer the Tampa, Florida CB. Wilkins plays for the prestigious Plant High, and he is now up to exactly five offers. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights offered last week, so two of Wilkins’s three major offers have come in the month of April.
The third major offer that Wilkins holds is from the team in his city; the South Florida Bulls. He visited USF last month and also visited them back in September, and I’m sure he will be scheduling plenty more trips this offseason to check out the Bulls program. Although he has no current leans and only three offers to choose from, USF looks to be in the best position to land the three-star corner. He also has offers from the Marshall Thundering Herd and the Memphis Tigers.
Ranked just outside the top 150 recruits in the state of Florida by the 247Composite (151), Mazzi Wilkins weighs just 155 pounds and is 6’0″ tall. The 247Composite rates him as the 86th-best cornerback in the country, and the long CB prides himself on being well-coached at Plant (that’s certainly true).
Wilkins had a solid junior campaign, and he’s starting to draw more interest from bigger teams. This offer from UConn shows that Wilkins will continue to receive more offers as everyone’s recruitment starts to heat up, and it will be interesting to see where USF stands after all this. They were the first to offer, but schools like Rutgers have been increasing their interest recently.
