2014 three-star Dayton running back Ashton Jackson currently has four offers in his recruitment, in addition to major in-state interest. Ranked as the 551st-best recruit in the nation by the 247Composite, Jackson will visit the Ohio State Buckeyes for the second time this month today. The Buckeyes seem to have significant interest in Jackson, and an offer from OSU would be absolutely huge for the in-state RB.
The Cincinnati Bearcats, Toledo Rockets, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Purdue Boilermakers comprise Jackson’s three offers. West Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Mississippi State have also shown interest in Jackson, and I have a strong feeling he will start to see the major offers flow in. Several of those heralded programs are tracking Jackson pretty closely, so the three-star RB should see some big offers come in.
The 6’0″, 192 pound Trotwood-Madison High standout is one of the top 30 recruits in the state of Ohio, and he is also ranked by the 247Composite as the 42nd-best running back in the country. Jackson visited Cincinnati late in March, attended junior day at Mississippi State, and he visited both Michigan and Ohio State during the 2012 season. Ohio State also hosted Jackson back in the summer on a camp visit, and he has visited Columbus quite a few times already in his recruitment.
Jackson rushed for 1,100 yards and 18 touchdowns as a sophomore, and he followed that up with 1,097 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior for Trotwood-Madison. With SEC interest from the Bulldogs and Volunteers, Jackson has the makings of a nationally recruited RB who could soon rise in the rankings.
One of the best players on Trotwood, Illinois seems to be the team to beat of the four teams that have offered Jackson, as he is reportedly an Illini lean. It’s still very early, and I think Jackson’s recruitment should be regarded as wide-open. Whether or not a team like Ohio State or Michigan changes that is another thing, and I’m sure Jackson will receive a significant sum of Big Ten offers.
