The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs have always seemed to be the two schools in the best position to land 2014 four-star defensive tackle Elisha Shaw. A significant majority of the experts on 247Sports predicted Georgia as the team for Shaw, and one of the reasons is that Shaw stars for Tucker High in Tucker, Georgia. However, Shaw named the Alabama Crimson Tide the leaders in his recruitment yesterday, and it looks like we’re headed for a big recruiting battle between these two SEC programs. The Auburn Tigers and Florida State Seminoles are two other teams in a great position to land Shaw.
He currently holds other offers from the Arkansas Razorbacks, Ohio State Buckeyes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Connecticut Huskies, Mississippi Rebels, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Mississippi State Bulldogs in his recruitment. Shaw is our 37th-ranked recruit in the 2014 class, and he is the consensus second-best recruit at the defensive tackle position. He also checks in at third in our rankings among recruits in the state of Georgia.
Earlier this month, Georgia hosted Elisha Shaw on an unofficial visit, and he took trips to Mississippi State and Florida State last month. Alabama and Mississippi State also brought Shaw in on junior day visits, and he visited Auburn in February. Shaw is a recruit to watch closely, as the 6’5″, 295 pound DT has an incredible frame and excellent strength to go with it. He can push the pocket with the best of him and is one of the most explosive players in this recruiting class. Shaw would bring a top SEC program like Georgia or Alabama the kind of motor and athletic ability that combines to make a formidable presence on the interior of the defensive line. It’s no wonder why he was named to the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl squad.
