Nebraska Football Recruiting: Northwestern hosts Frank Ragnow

The Northwestern Wildcats are set to host 2014 three-star offensive tackle Frank Ragnow on an unofficial visit today, and he is one of several talented prospects slated to check out Northwestern today. Ragnow is the consensus second-best recruit in the state of Minnesota, and he has an offer from the big in-state school in the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Northwestern, however, has not offered, but they could be the next significant program to send an offer.

The Florida State Seminoles, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Missouri Tigers, Pittsburgh Panthers, and USF Bulls have all offered Frank Ragnow. He has also garnered interest from the California Golden Bears, Wisconsin Badgers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan State Spartans, Kansas Jayhawks, and Arkansas Razorbacks. This means more offers will be rolling in for Ragnow, and I expect Wisconsin to also offer with T.J. Woods and Ben Strickland reportedly recruiting Ragnow.

Nebraska and Pittsburgh seem to be going after Ragnow with a heavy pace, and both schools offered Ragnow late last month. His rise has been quite recent, and it will be interesting to see if Northwestern becomes the latest Big Ten program to offer. Today’s visit is a big one for Ragnow, and he is set to have meetings with coaches from Cal and Minnesota later this month.

Frank Ragnow is one of the top 40 offensive tackles in the 2014 recruiting class, and the 6’6″, 286 pound Chanhassen standout is ranked by the 247Composite as the 540th-best recruit in the country overall. Ragnow runs a 5.00 forty and is reportedly high on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Northwestern currently has five commitments in their class, and their biggest visit today will be Dareian Watkins’s. Yesterday, Minnesota checked in with Ragnow, and the in-state school is going hard after him with lead recruiter Matt Limegrover in heavy pursuit. We’ll see if Minnesota can keep the three-star OT in the state, because teams like Nebraska and Missouri are making this a tough battle. Minnesota recently hosted Ragnow on an unofficial visit, and Wisconsin also checked in on him in late April. This is one Big Ten recruiting battle to keep very close tabs on, and it involves schools from other conferences (like the ACC) as well.
