The nation’s top 2014 football recruit will take a visit to an SEC school today, as five-star strong-side defensive end Da’Shawn Hand will be taking a visit to the Auburn Tigers. The Virginia Tech Hokies and Michigan Wolverines are the two teams in the best position to land Hand, and it looks like the in-state Hokies are the best bet to land Hand in the early going. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, and South Carolina Gamecocks are also teams to watch for closely in Hand’s recruitment.
Hand has been offered by so many top programs, but he has eliminated three schools in the Clemson Tigers, Virginia Cavaliers, and West Virginia Mountaineers. Those three programs are major ones, but it isn’t uncommon for a top recruit to eliminate schools he doesn’t like early on- no matter how good they are.
This visit is obviously crucial for the Tigers, as every team has to put their best foot forward in impressing the top recruit in the country. Da’Shawn Hand is the crowning jewel of our FanSided 150 rankings, and some of the top coaches in the nation have dropped by to check on him. Last month, coaches from the North Carolina Tar Heels and Oklahoma Sooners visited Hand, and he had a junior day visit to South Carolina.
The Philly native has won pretty much every major accolade for a football recruit, and there is little question that he is the best catch in the country. Possessing 4.6 speed, Hand has excellent size at 6’5″, 247 pounds and has all the tools to be an elite DE. Although Auburn is not in the Woodbridge star’s top five, it looks like they are definitely in a good position. Hand had 40 tackles for loss and 16 sacks last season, and it will be interesting to see when he schedules a visit to Michigan.
