2014 three-star running back Vayante Copeland is a versatile recruit from Dayton, Ohio, and he received another major offer today from the Louisville Cardinals. The Michigan State Spartans, Cincinnati Bearcats, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Duke Blue Devils target is one of the best 25 running backs in the nation, and he is also touted as a defensive back. Copeland has the ability to play cornerback or safety at the collegiate level, and it will be interesting to see which position Louisville likes him best at.
Copeland also holds offers from the Illinois Fighting Illini, Indiana Hoosiers, and Minnesota Golden Gophers. The major offers should continue to roll in for Copeland, as he has also received interest from a trio of storied Big Ten schools in the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Wisconsin Badgers.
Ranked by the 247Composite as the 345th-best recruit in the 2014 class overall, Copeland is one of the top 20 recruits in the state of Ohio and ran for over 2,000 yards on under 150 carries in a ridiculously good season for Thurgood Marshall. Copeland absolutely tore up the competition with 25 rushing touchdowns, six receiving touchdowns, and he showed off his ball skills as a DB with seven interceptions. He could easily fit in as a DB in college, but it’s tough to get the 2,000 rushing yards (especially on just under 150 carries) out of your head.
Vayante Copeland has a chance to be a special player, and Duke would love to snag the Ohio prospect. The Blue Devils are recruiting much better nowadays, and they are already in a great position with Copeland after just recently offering him. We’ll see if Charlie Strong and Louisville can have similar success early on, but it sounds like an in-state school in Cincinnati has the best shot at landing him. JC Shurburtt of 247Sports predicted that last month’s Michigan State visitor is Cincinnati-bound, and the Bearcats are right up Copeland’s alley. He has several offers from the variety of smaller schools in the state of Ohio, but we’ll see if he can snag an offer from the big fish in Ohio State. Copeladn took a trip to Columbus in late March, by the way, and there seems to be mutual interest.
