It would be a surprise to see a team other than the Michigan Wolverines land Bolingbrook star Parrker Westphal, and all seven experts on 247Sports have picked Michigan to land Westphal. However, Westphal is also high on the Vanderbilt Commodores, and another SEC program is looking to make a push to land Westphal. The Florida Gators will host the four-star 2014 cornerback today on an unofficial visit, and it will be interesting to see if the Gators can become another school that Westphal has high interest in. Per his profile on 247Sports, Westphal is “warm” on both the Michigan Wolverines and Vandy.
Westphal has also received offers from the Arizona State Sun Devils, Cincinnati Bearcats, Indiana Hoosiers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Northwestern Wildcats, Michigan State Spartans, Syracuse Orange, Tennessee Volunteers, West Virginia Mountaineers, Mississippi Rebels, Purdue Boilermakers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Wisconsin Badgers, Minnesota Golden Gophers, and Mississippi State Bulldogs.
That’s a huge list of major offers, and Westphal is clearly one of the elite CBs in the 2014 class. He made the cut in our FanSided 150 rankings and has good size at 6’0″, 186 pounds at the CB position. Westphal is a great tackler and is quick, so he isn’t going to give up many big plays and can be a solid cornerback at the collegiate level.
Michigan is in the driver’s seat for Westphal with Vanderbilt being the darkhorse, and it will be interesting if Florida can improve their stock following this visit. Westphal will also visit Arizona State next week, and he visited the Wolverines last month. The Gators currently have one committed CB in the 2014 class in three-star in-state guy Duke Dawson, who is 333rd in the 247Composite.
Westphal is clearly one of the top 15 cornerbacks in the nation, and he is also firmly entrenched as one of the five best players in the state of Illinois after recording over 50 tackles and three picks last season, but I honestly think Westphal played better as a sophomore for Bolingbrook.
