Tennessee Football Recruiting: Duke offers Kyle Phillips

2015 Nashville, Tennessee strong-side defensive end Kyle Phillips is one of the top sophomore prospects in the country, and he added yet another early offer yesterday from the Duke Blue Devils. Phillips’s biggest offers are from the Clemson Tigers and an in-state power in the Tennessee Volunteers, and the offer from Duke means that Phillips has now received six offers this month.

It has certainly been a busy month of May for Phillips, as he received his two biggest offers (Clemson and Tennessee) on the 7th, and he then added three offers a day later from two SEC programs in the Kentucky Wildcats and Mississippi Rebels. Another in-state school in the Tennessee State Tigers also decided to offer on the 8th.

Right now, Phillips holds six offers but could add a seventh if a third in-state school decides to offer him. The Vanderbilt Commodores are showing significant interest in Kyle Phillips with Sean Spencer trying to recruit him to Vandy, and I am willing to bet that the other SEC school in the state of Tennessee will offer Phillips as well.

The talented 6’4″, 250 pound DE for Hillsboro High has great speed (4.6 forty) and absolutely incredible athleticism. Phillips is a good pass rusher and might actually be a better fit on the weak side, but Phillips can play on either side at DE and be successful. Last season, he forced a whopping five fumbles, recovered three more, and finished with 12 sacks in total. The Volunteers took note and were the first program to offer him, and that was a prestigious first offer from Phillips from Butch Jones and Co. He has been lighting up the competition in the state of Tennessee with his athleticism, and he is easily one of the best defensive players in the state.
