The Illinois Fighting Illini just got some tough in-conference competition for an in-state 2014 wide receiver in three-star Thornton Township star Jauan Wesley. According to 247Sports, the Michigan State Spartans have offered Wesley today and are now the biggest offer in his recruitment. Michigan State’s offer comes just three days after the Toledo Rockets decided to extended an offer to the three-star wideout, while Illinois was always early on Wesley; they offered him at the beginning of the year.
Wesley is currently being recruited to Michigan State by Ron Burton, who landed two three-star commits last month and will be looking to add more to his total. It will be interesting to see if other major programs that are currently interested decide to pull the trigger and offer, as the Vanderbilt Commodores, Northwestern Wildcats, Wisconsin Badgers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Michigan Wolverines all have interest. Wesley is drawing plenty of interest from Big Ten schools, and Michigan could join their bitter in-state rivals and offer the 5’11″, 160 pound receiver from Illinois.
Both the Illini and the Purdue Boilermakers hosted Jauan Wesley on junior days visits at some point this year, and Wesley was visited by a coach from Wisconsin just last month. One of the top 150 wide receiver prospects in the nation, Wesley is also among the 25 best recruits in the state of Illinois and is thus a big target for the Illini.
Michigan State currently has ten uncommitted offers out to wide receivers in this recruiting class, with Phoenix four-star guy Jalen Brown being the top target for the Spartans.
