College Football Recruiting Roundup: Florida loses four-star LB, Boston College keeps rising

The biggest news in the college football recruiting sphere yesterday may have been the decommitment of U.S. Army All-American Christian Miller, who is a four-star outside linebacker from Columbia, South Carolina. Miller is our 78th-rated prospect in the FanSided150, and he was committed to the Florida Gators before opening things up yesterday. Florida’s coaching staff shared a good bond with the top five linebacker, but they no longer look like the favorite to land Miller.

It’s a three-way race right now between storied SEC programs in the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, and Florida, and it looks like Alabama and Tennessee are in better positions than Florida. In fact, all seven experts on 247Sports believe that the top recruit in the state of South Carolina is headed to Alabama.

Boston College is on a tear in the 2014 class thanks to new head coach Steve Addazio, who is one of the best recruiters in the country and quickly turned around the recruiting outlook for the Temple Owls when he was the head man there. With Boston College, Addazio has finally allowed the Eagles to flex their might in the state and region, and he added another big in-state catch yesterday in three-star inside linebacker Connor Strachan.

The best recruit in the state of Massachusetts, Strachan is a big commitment for Addazio and the Boston College Eagles, and he gives the Eagles their ninth commitment in the class. BC has one of the top 25 recruiting class thus far in the 2014 period, and Addazio has truly boosted the stock of Boston College. Even though he had offers from other ACC programs such as the Virginia Cavaliers, it would have been an upset for Addazio to not lock up Strachan.

Alex Bars was the biggest commitment yesterday, and the four-star offensive tackle made the call and chose the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It was a huge choice made by Bars, because all nine experts on 247Sports actually had the Nashville native selecting the Michigan Wolverines as his college choice. Notre Dame will be getting one of the top 150 recruits in the nation, and the Irish now have ten commitments in the 2014 class, with Bars being one of the top three commits for ND. According to 247Sports, Notre Dame now has one of the top five classes in the 2014 period.

Recruiting Quick Hits

Top 50 defensive end C.J. Reese has reaffirmed his commitment to the Kansas State Wildcats and head coach Bill Snyder.

Rising 2015 defensive end Shy Tuttle nabbed another big offer (maybe his biggest yet) yesterday from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Boston College Eagles offered a couple of more players in Chris Jones and JaWhaun Bentley.

Elite prospect Jabrill Peppers will be taking his anticipated unofficial visit today to check out the Penn State Nittany Lions, and it looks like a two-teams race between Michigan and Penn State for the blue-chip prospect. However, Penn State does have some ground to cover with Michigan looking like the favorites, and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are Big Ten-newcomers who might still have a say in the consensus top prospect from the state of New Jersey.
