2015 Center standout Johnny Shaw will be one of the highest rated recruits in the state of Texas once the 2015 rankings are out, and he received the first offer in his recruitment yesterday from the TCU Horned Frogs. Shaw is one of the elite recruits in the 2015 class, and his early interest shows it. Shaw is already extremely high on the in-state Texas Longhorns and a huge program out west in the Oregon Ducks. Other schools for which there is mutual interest are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas A&M Aggies, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Shaw is being recruited to Texas A&M by B.J. Anderson, and there is little doubt that Shaw is a highly regarded recruit in the state of Texas. I expect more offers to pour in for the 2015 safety, and the offer yesterday from TCU is just the first of what will be many in-state and in-conference (by that, I mean the Big 12) offers for him.
It’s interesting to see Oregon as a team Shaw really likes, and it shows that he is already a national recruit and not just yet another highly touted recruit in in-state circles. Shaw stars for Center and has a very good frame at 6’2″, 188 pounds. Texas and Oregon are the teams to watch especially closely for in his recruitment, but every team interested is a team Shaw reportedly likes, according to his 247Sports profile.
The Longhorns hosted Shaw on a junior day visit, and his 88 tackles and five interceptions last season have certainly not gone unnoticed by Texas and other programs. TCU’s offer is a great first offer for the playmaking safety, and there will definitely be plenty more to come for Shaw. According to 247Sports, the Horned Frogs have offered six recruits in the 2015 class, and Johnny Shaw is one of their top targets.
Two of TCU’s offers are out to safeties, and the other one, Sulphur Springs star Larry Pryor, is also a top target for the Horned Frogs. Pryor is also high on TCU early on, and Gerry Hamilton has already predicted TCU as the team to beat in his recruitment, despite big offers from the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders for Pryor. He has been recruited heavily by Texas already, and it will be interesting to see if two other in-state programs in the Baylor Bears and Texas A&M decide to offer Pryor, as he is also high on those schools.
