The USC Trojans extended an offer to one of the top 250 recruits in the 2014 class yesterday in four-star Carmel standout Austin Roberts. All seven experts on 247Sports predict that Roberts will commit to the Ohio State Buckeyes, but the four-star wide receiver is also high on the Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes, Louisville Cardinals, Florida State Seminoles, and Stanford Cardinal.
Roberts has his eyes set on some of the most storied programs in the nation, and USC fits the bill. However, it will be interesting to see if the late start hurts the Trojans, and I wouldn’t expect them to land Roberts’s pledge over all those other schools he already likes. On the other hand, USC is USC, and they should be right in the mix of things.
Ohio State recently checked in with Austin Roberts, but it has been a quieter month of May for him than April was despite the offers from USC and Louisville. Last month, Roberts took unofficial visits to big schools in Ohio State, Florida, and Miami, and both Florida State and Tennessee offered him. Roberts is a wanted man in the state of Florida, and it is telling that he has interest in all three of those Florida programs.
The 6’3″, 217 pound WR should continue to see big offers flow in, and he is easily one of the elite three prospects in the state of Indiana. Roberts is safely nestled in the top 250, and the 247Composite ranks the Carmel, Indiana prospect as the 31st-best wide receiver in the 2014 recruiting class.
