Canadian transplant Michael O’Connor feels that he has seen enough and is ready to announce his collegiate decision this Saturday. He told Derek Tyson of ESPN.com:
“The recruiting process is starting to wear on me. I’ve made up my mind and I’m ready to move on and get ready for my senior season.”
Though the 6’4″ 220 pounder never actually narrowed his choices, many believe that Michael will be committing to the Penn State Nittany Lions. In fact, the Crystal Ball projectors at 247Sports have unanimously predicted that will be the case.
However, there are plenty of fine schools in the running. Missouri, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Mississippi State and Rutgers are all contenders and could wind up landing O’Connor. With how highly he is rated by the experts, it’s a little shocking that his offer sheet isn’t longer. According to ESPN, Michael is the 3rd best pocket-passing prospect (say that three times fast!) in the country. Rivals calls him the 8th best pro-style quarterback and 247Sports has him ranked 14th in the same category.
Originally from Canada, Michael now plays his football at the IMG academy in Bradenton, Florida under the coaching of former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Chris Weinke. He intends to enroll at whichever school he chooses in January and will be competing in spring camp.
The thing that stands out to me on his film is how polished he is as a passer. His footwork and release look like that of a tenured college quarterback. It will be interesting to see where his ceiling is at once he gets to the next level.
