Today, the Penn State Nittany Lions are hosting one of the top JUCO prospects in the 2014 class in four-star Chambersburg, Pennsylvania defensive tackle Cory Johnson, per 247Sports. With a few major offers to his name, Johnson is one of the more underrated JUCO prospects in the class and could very well be the best JUCO defensive tackle in the nation. Today’s visit to Penn State is a big one for the in-state prospect, and it will be interesting to see if Johnson can land a big offer from the Nittany Lions.
He currently holds offers from the Kentucky Wildcats, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Arizona State Sun Devils, Temple Owls, Tennessee Volunteers, and Syracuse Orange. That’s a solid early list, and it now looks like Johnson is in a good position to have Penn State offer him and become his biggest in-state offer (maybe even his biggest offer overall).
Johnson is rated by the 247Composite as one of the top 15 JUCO recruits in the 2014 class, as well as the second-best JUCO prospect in the state of Pennsylvania. Miami is a school to watch for closely in Johnson’s recruitment with Jethro Franklin actively recruiting the DT to Coral Gables, and close tabs should also be kept on Tennessee’s Steve Stripling.
The former Temple signee is now a 6’3″, 300 pound JUCO defensive tackle with a nice list of high-end offers, and he could continue to play in the state but for a bigger program in Penn State if the Nittany Lions do decide to offer. We’ll see how today’s visit goes for both parties, because an offer from PSU would be huge.
