South Carolina Football Recruiting: Gamecocks lead for Wesley Green

The South Carolina Gamecocks brought in one of the top recruits in the state of Georgia for an unofficial visit a few days ago, and now four-star cornerback Wesley Green has named South Carolina the leaders in his recruitment over the Mississippi Rebels, Tennessee Volunteers, and rival Clemson Tigers. Both Ole Miss and Tennessee have long been high on Green’s list, and Clemson is still heavily in the mix. However, Green’s visit to South Carolina on Friday was so good that the Gamecocks are now in the driver’s seat over Clemson. It looks like both elite programs in the state of South Carolina are in a prime position to land Green, and more analysts at 247Sports (55% to 45%) actually believe that Clemson will land Green over South Carolina. I wonder if that number will change since yesterday’s announcement, and the fact that South Carolina has emerged as the leader in a tight recruitment is very encouraging for Steve Spurrier and his staff.

Wesley Green is the 113th-best recruit in our FanSided 150 rankings, and he is certainly a top, four-star talent and one of the elite prospects in the nation. Green is entrenched as one of the top 15 best recruits in the state of Georgia, and he is also regarded as one of the top 15 cornerbacks in the country. Last season for Martin Luther King Jr. in Lithonia, Georgia, Green affirmed his four-star status with a strong performance and is regarded for his tackling ability and run support. Green does a good job of staying with his man downfield, and he is one of the most instinctive cornerbacks in the region.

The 5’11″, 170 pound CB visited South Carolina with teammate Arden Key, who is a four-star weak-side DE in the 2015 recruiting class. It truly was a remarkable visit for the Gamecocks, as Key decided to pull the trigger and commit, while his teammate has named South Carolina as the leaders in his recruitment.

Green visited the Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, and Clemson Tigers back in the spring.
