Malik Newman is the third-best prospect in the 2015 recruiting class, and the blue-chip combo guard picked up a blue blood offer on Monday from the Kansas Jayhawks. The recent KU offer has already made quite the impression on Newman, as he told JayhawkSlant.com’s Shay Wildeboor that he is planning on visiting the Kansas Jayhawks. However, the date of his future visit is reportedly not known at this time.
The five-star point guard is widely rated as the third-best prospect in the class, and he is ranked by the 247Composite as the country’s No. 1 CG. Malik Newman is clearly the best recruit in the state of Mississippi, and both the Mississippi Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs will do whatever they can to keep him in the state. They will almost certainly lose out to elite programs like Kansas and likely future offers from the North Carolina Tar Heels and Duke Blue Devils, but Mississippi State could be regarded as a darkhorse.
The 6’3″, 180 pound Jackson, Mississippi guard averaged 23 points per game and five rebounds per game for Callaway following a freshman season in which he posted similar numbers. Newman is easily one of the elite prospects around in 2015, and it will be interesting to see when he visits Kansas. The Jayhawks decision to offer Newman was already big news on Monday, and it will be interesting to see if Bill Self can lure him to KU over the other programs set to jump in.
Mississippi has churned out a truly elite guard prospect, and he is also mulling over an offer from the N.C. State Wolfpack. The Baylor Bears, Georgetown Hoyas, Memphis Tigers, Arizona Wildcats, and LSU Tigers have also offered Newman, and he is receiving plenty of interest from major schools. Newman is an incredible scorer and the star of USA’s U16 squad.
