The Georgia Bulldogs are the leaders for several top prospects in the 2014 class, and an elite 2015 recruit recently named Georgia has his leader. Scout.com’s Chad Simmons reports that Thompson named Georgia his leader yesterday after recent camp visits to the Tennessee Volunteers and Georgia Bulldogs, as well as an unofficial visit five days ago to the Florida State Seminoles. This is huge news for Georgia, as Thompson is a 2015 recruit who has already been named to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl roster.
Trenton Thompson also holds offers from the South Florida Bulls, Florida Gators, Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Auburn Tigers. The elite teams have all lined up for an equally elite prospect, so it is definitely big for Georgia to be beating out their SEC brethren and schools from the state south of the border for the in-state prospect in Albany, Georgia.
Other schools to watch for closely in the five-star defensive tackle’s recruitment are the schools he camped at in Florida State and the Tennessee Vols. However, it isn’t much of a surprise that Georgia is the leader, given that all seven 247Sports analysts predict Georgia to land the 6’4″, 275 pound Westover High standout.
Last season at Westover, Thompson recorded 12 tackles for loss, and he is locked in as one of the best ten recruits overall in the 2015 class. According to the 247Composite, Thompson is 8th and is also the second-best defensive tackle in the nation.
