The Northwestern Wildcats decided to extend an offer to 2014 Marquette Golden Eagles-lean Malek Harris yesterday, according to 247Sports. Harris, who stars for Carl Sandburg High, is one of the top 150 recruits in the country and one of the top ten prospects in the state of Illinois. Northwestern has the advantage of being in-state and were wise to offer the three-star small forward, but the Wildcats will have to heavily compete with Marquette. Analyst Jerry Meyer predicts that Marquette will end up landing Harris, and that’s definitely a wise prediction considering he is reportedly leaning towards the Golden Eagles.
Harris also has offers from the Auburn Tigers, Creighton Bluejays, DePaul Blue Demons, Kansas State Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, St. Louis Bilikens, and Oregon State Beavers. That’s a decent list of offers, and Northwestern gives Harris another Big Six offer to add to a list that will surely grow.
Northwestern’s offer comes about a week after Harris received a major offer from Oklahoma State, and he will continue to be busy in the month of June. The top 150 2014 recruit is set to take visits to the Purdue Boilermakers and Marquette this month, with the visit to Purdue coming tomorrow and the visit to Marquette coming next week on Wednesday. Purdue hasn’t offered yet, so we’ll see if they end up becoming Malek Harris’s next Big Ten offer.
