2014 four-star Hollywood, Florida defensive tackle Khairi Clark is one of the most touted prospects in the nation, and he checks in as the 35th-best recruit in the country in our FanSided150 rankings. Clark recently named his top six to Rivals.com, and the Florida Gators, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Miami Hurricanes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Georgia Bulldogs made the cut. Florida and Miami represent the in-state schools in the top six for Clark, and Clark is believed to be a Miami lean.
All 13 recruiting experts on 247Sports believe the Miami Hurricanes will be the ones to end up with a commitment from Khairi Clark when it is all said and done, and they were an obvious bet to make the top six. Some schools that look like notable cuts are the Alabama Crimson Tide and Arkansas Razorbacks, and it looks like two non-SEC programs in Nebraska and Clemson took their spots. The Florida State Seminoles must be a little bummed out since in-state rivals Florida and Miami made the top six for one of the top ten recruits in the state of Florida, but FSU wasn’t expected to be a major factor.
Clark lives closest to Miami, and he has stated that he “loves” the ‘Canes program. The team that lands the four-star DT would be getting one of the top five defensive tackles in the class, as well as a 6’2″, 325 pound prospect with the size to match his ranking at 35. Last season, the Chaminade Madonna star equaled his sophomore total of 60 tackles, but he one-upped his tackles for loss with nine.
Why is Miami regarded as the team to beat? Well, back in February, that’s what Clark said about Miami, and he followed that statement up with a junior day visit to Coral Gables and two additional unofficial visits in the spring. He actually attended two junior days in February with the Hurricanes, and his leadership announcement followed the first trip. Clark also visited the Florida Gators in early April, one day after a trip to Miami.
