The St. John’s Red Storm have become the latest offer for 2015 blue-chip center prospect Stephen Zimmerman, according to Rivals.com. The five-star center is easily the top recruit in the state of Nevada, and the Las Vegas prospect is also slotted in comfortably as the top center in the class. There is little doubt that Zimmerman is a top five recruit, and he is the third-best prospect in the nation behind only Ivan Rabb and Malik Newman in the 247Composite. I would actually slot Zimmerman in as second above Newman, but it is a close call either way.
There is no denying Zimmerman’s talent, and St. John’s has done well to at least put their name in the mix for the five-star Bishop Gorman standout. Zimmerman has ridiculous size at 7’0″, 215 pounds, and he is also a recruit who has high character and a list of offers that is just as big.
It looks like the Arizona Wildcats and Kentucky Wildcats are the two elite programs in the best position to land Zimmerman, and two recruiting analysts on 247Sports tab Arizona as the team to land Zimmerman and keep him in the region, while one analyst has Kentucky (the other Wildcats) winning over Zimmerman and trying to make him the next elite center at UK. If I had to make a prediction, I would pick Arizona, because they are right in the region and Sean Miller has been recruiting him hard.
St. John’s is just the latest major school to offer Zimmerman recently, as the Texas Longhorns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Kentucky, and the rival Louisville Cardinals have also extended offers.
