UPDATE: JALYN HOLMES HAS ANNOUNCED HIS COMMITMENT TO OHIO STATE.
There are times when I enjoy covering recruiting, and times when I absolutely love it. The Jalyn Holmes/Ohio State story falls into the second category.
Earlier this week, the Buckeyes hosted Jalyn Holmes in Columbus and the Virginia defensive end was admittedly blown away by what Urban Meyer has to offer. He was so impressed that he committed, according to Bucknuts insider Bill Kurelic.

For my money, Kurelic is the top Ohio State recruiting guy. End of story, right?
I did not commit — Jalyn Holmes #⃣1⃣1⃣ (@JayHolmes_) June 19, 2013
Mike Farrell of Rivals is one of the most plugged in guys, nationally. He added this:
Let the soap opera begin!
Recruiting fans are familiar with the infamous “silent verbal.” A kid wants to lock up his spot and commit but wants to keep it quiet publicly, for whatever reason. Maybe he wants to announce it on his own terms. Maybe he wants to notify the other suitors first. Maybe he isn’t actually sure and wants to take another visit to Team B but wants to hold his scholarship spot with Team B. It’s possible that Holmes wants to take a look at Florida State before committing. It’s possible that he wants to put some hats on a table. It’s possible that he’s just not good at saying no and made a mistake. Regardless of how it played out, Ohio State recruiting experts heard from their “sources” (read: coaches, trainers, etc.) that Holmes committed, so he probably did. However, when those experts took the news pulic, mom got involved:
@Bucknuts1 and you got this information from where? Please don’t assume or speculate. Thanks in advance

Take from that what you will, but if Holmes did indeed put his confidence in the OSU program to keep his commitment quiet, it would appear that they failed and Jalyn’s mom is none too happy. Could that betrayal of trust cost the Buckeyes a four star edge rusher? Possibly. For what it’s worth, I made my Crystal Ball prediction today and I think he lands in Columbus, maybe sooner rather than later.
On the other hand, there’s a chance that this was all a big misunderstanding and Jalyn has no interest in committing to Ohio State…but this isn’t my first rodeo.
