The Vanderbilt Commodores decided to extend an offer to one of the top 250 recruits in the 2015 class in offensive tackle Garrett Thomas, who now holds four offers in his recruitment. Scout.com’s Mike Coppage reported the offer yesterday, and Scout also reported an offer from another SEC team earlier this week in the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Thomas’s other two offers come from the Michigan Wolverines and Auburn Tigers, so the four-star 2015 OT already has plenty of major offers and even more major interest.
Garrett Thomas is currently viewed as a prospect leaning to two huge SEC schools in the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide, with LSU likely holding the early edge as the large in-state powerhouse. Four out of five 247Sports experts believe that Thomas will end up picking LSU, while the other analyst tabs Alabama as the school to beat for the 6’6″, 295 pound Many standout.
Mississippi State and Vanderbilt aren’t expected to be as big factors in Thomas’s recruitment as Michigan and Auburn, and another SEC school in the Texas A&M Aggies is also worth watching. Although the Aggies have not offered yet, Thomas is interested in A&M and camped at College Station early this month.
Ranked by 247Sports as the 22nd-best offensive tackle prospect in the country, Thomas checks in as 247′s 211st-best recruit overall and the 16th-best prospect in the state of Louisiana. Alabama and LSU, by the way, have also hosted Thomas on camp visits.
