The Penn State Nittany Lions became the latest program to offer 2014 three-star Millville, New Jersey defensive tackle Antoine White, who is now up to 15 offers, according to 247Sports. White is reportedly high on the in-state Rutgers Scarlet Knights, the Michigan State Spartans, and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Michigan State has been recruiting White hard, but I expect the rival Nittany Lions to be an immediate factor in White’s recruitment. They are looking to fill out their class, and White is an underrated DT prospect who would help PSU do that on the defensive line. His offer from Penn State yesterday didn’t come as a surprise, because Ron Vanderlinden has been busy recruiting White to the program.
He also holds offers from the North Carolina Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils, Boston College Eagles, Syracuse Orange, Pittsburgh Panthers, Maryland Terrapins, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, UCF Knights, Temple, and UMass.
White, who visited Big Ten newcomers Rutgers and Maryland in the spring, is ranked by the 247Composite as the 815th-best recruit in the nation, the 22nd-best prospect in the state of New Jersey, and the 56th-best defensive tackle overall. The 6’3″, 265 pound Millville Senior standout went off last season with 80 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and six sacks in an incredibly productive season. He has all the tools to be a disruptive presence on the defensive line, and it will be interesting to see if Penn State can beat out the likes of Rutgers and MSU for White’s services.
Penn State has now offered seven uncommitted defensive tackle prospects in the 2014 class, and they are still in the running for five of them, with one of them being a JUCO prospect in Cory Johnson.
