2014 four-star wide receiver recruit Corey Holmes is one of the top 200 prospects in the nation, and the St. Thomas Aquinas star recently camped with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. According to IrishIllustrated.com’s Jake Brown, the UCLA Bruins and Notre Dame are the two teams “in front” for Holmes right now, and it sounds like his recent camp visit to Notre Dame has something to do with it.
Notre Dame looks like the best bet to land Holmes right now, and a whopping 89% of the 247Sports experts believe that the Irish will land Holmes. Other teams receiving predictions in the Crystal Ball are the Oklahoma Sooners and Miami Hurricanes, so it is certainly interesting to see that UCLA is high on Holmes’s list early on. The Michigan Wolverines are yet another school to watch for closely in Holmes’s recruitment.
UCLA currently has just four commits in the 2014 class, but three of them are wide receivers in four-star Barry Ware, Dionte Sykes (Chandler, Arizona), and the recently committed Jordan Lasley who was a standout at the Bruins camp. Corey Holmes, who possesses sub-4.5 speed, would be a game-changer for the Bruins as one of the top 25 wide receiver recruits in the nation. The 6’2″, 174 pound wideout also possesses a ridiculous 39-inch vertical, and he is also one of the top 25 best recruits in the state of Florida. The fact that UCLA is right in the thick of it with Notre Dame early on is huge for the Bruins, and Holmes is the kind of elite, playmaking wide receiver who could really blow things open for the Bruins in the passing game if he pans out on the four-star, top 200 status.
Consider Notre Dame as the team in the best position to land Holmes early on, and this recruitment will either end up in a quick commitment for Notre Dame or a long one for someone else. Holmes has already visited the Irish four times, and he is one of the top targets on their board. Let’s see if Miami can take better advantage of their geographical advantage and steal some momentum from ND and the Bruins.
