On July 7th, 2014 three-star point guard Casey Benson committed to the Oregon Ducks. Benson became the first recruit from the Class of 2014 to verbally commit to Dana Altman and the Ducks. Not only is he one of the top 150 prospects in the nation, but he is also in the top 30 among PGs and the top 5 in the state of Arizona.
The other teams that offered at Benson, but did not get his commitment were the Arizona State Sun Devils, Boise State Broncos, Boston College Eagles, Colorado Buffaloes, Creighton Bluejays, Gonzaga Bulldogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon State Beavers, Stanford Cardinal, and USC Trojans.
Benson’s commitment is huge for the Ducks, and not just because its their first from the 2014 class.
Casey Benson was quite high on the Ducks’ list and they won him over five other Pac-12 schools (ASU, Colorado, OSU, Stanford, and USC).
According to 247 Sports, Casey Benson is a “heady left hander with game” and “consistently made positive plays as a passer and shooter” at the Pangos All American Camp.
In 2012, Benson averaged 20.7 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game as a junior at Corona Del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona.
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 5th in the state of Arizona, 30th among point guards, and 132nd among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
