After reeling in top recruits last year such as the No. 1 overall player in the nation Robert Nkemdiche as well as five-stars Antonio Conner and Laremy Tunsil, the Ole Miss Rebels received a boost to their 2014 recruiting class by landing offensive lineman Roderick Taylor.
Taylor comes in at No. 81 overall in our FanSided 150 rankings and is a four-star prospect, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Hailing from Jackson, MS, Taylor chose the Rebels over the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs, among others.
Taylor’s commitment to Ole Miss marks the third straight year that the Rebels have been able to land their state’s top prospect.
In the 2012 class, five-star defensive end Channing Ward pledged to the Rebels, and last year Conner decided to stay at home and play for Ole Miss’ Head Coach Hugh Freeze.
At 6’4, 305 pounds, the offensive guard will fit in perfectly beside offensive tackle and 2013 signee Laremy Tunsil. Taylor features great size for an interior lineman with solid upper body strength and punch. The best quality regarding his game is his footwork, which allows him to excel at run and pass blocking.
Taylor is the sixth four-star recruit to commit to the Rebels and the No. 18 overall commitment for Ole Miss in their 2014 class as Freeze looks to continue to build this program heading into his second year as head coach. The Rebels’ class currently ranks at No. 13 in the nation and will likely climb with the recent addition of Taylor.
