Georgia Tech Football Recruiting: Jake Whitley Visits Yellow Jackets

Although he doesn’t have an offer from them, that didn’t stop 2014 center Jake Whitley from unofficially visiting the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sunday. The top 50 South Carolina prospect might not have a ton of offers from major conference schools, but he has received interest from a few.

At this moment, the three major conference schools with high interest from Whitley are the Maryland Terrapins, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and North Carolina Tar Heels. The Terrapins are the only one out of these three school to have extended Whitley an offer.

Right now, Maryland seems to be the hot spot among the experts as the 247 Sports Crystal Ball has the Terrapins as the predicted landing spot for the South Carolina native.

However, things should get real interesting if either Georgia Tech or North Carolina decide to extend an offer out to him.

Jake Whitley might not be one of the top-end centers from the 2014 class like J.C. Hassenauer or Brian Allen, but he could be a quality center in college with the right coaching and development.

He has nice feet and lateral movement, but will need to work on his pass and run blocking as well as his punch off the line of scrimmage.

The two-star recruit is currently ranked 41st in the state of South Carolina and 28th among centers by 247Sports.
