On Wednesday, 2014 wide receiver Corey Holmes committed to Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. On top of being the 33rd best WR and Florida prospect, Holmes is also ranked 176th in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
The other teams that offered at Holmes, but did not get his commitment were the Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Cincinnati Bearcats, Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Illinois Fighting Illini, Kansas Jayhawks, Kentucky Wildcats, Maryland Terrapins, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, North Carolina Tar Heels, Oklahoma Sooners, Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Stanford Cardinal, Tennessee Volunteers, UCLA Bruins, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Wisconsin Badgers.
Its no surprise that Corey Holmes chose to commit to Notre Dame because 21 of the 22 recruiting experts on 247Sports’ Crystal Ball picked ND as the team to land the Florida native.
Holmes is a very solid commitment for the Fighting Irish at the wide receiver position. Compared to Justin Brent (committed to ND in July 2012), Corey Holmes does not have Brent’s size, however, he contains better speed and agility.
Other than his speed and agility, Holmes is a quality WR, but is nothing like the national top WRs. However, his commitment is still a nice one for Brian Kelly and the Irish.
Holmes’ commitment is No. 5 overall for the Fighting Irish and moves their class to 7th overall (up 3 spots) in the 247 Sports class rankings. The Irish’s class also ranks 5th in the nation, according to Rivals.com.
