Guz Malzahn added a vital piece to the future of his prolific offense at Auburn on Sunday as the Tigers landed wide receiver D’haquille Williams.
Williams, a four-star recruit and the No. 1 rated wide receiver in the nation, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, chose the Tigers over the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida State Seminoles, and LSU Tigers, where he was once committed until he de-committed on May 21.
Williams, a JUCO prospect currently playing at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, is by far the best wide receiver in the class of 2014. The 6-3, 215 pound prospect has phenomenal ball skills and catching ability to go along with his tremendous size. With a 4.4 40-yard dash, he has the ability to stretch the field vertically and gain big yards after the catch while giving opposing defenses fits.
As you may remember when Malzahn was the offensive coordinator at Auburn in 2010, when Cam Newton was the quarterback and they won the national title, he loves to spread the ball out and use big-time receivers much like Williams. Although Auburn has no quarterback quite like Cam Newton anymore, Williams will still be able to come in a make an immediate impact in the 2014 season
Auburn now has 13 commitments with the addition of Williams, and he is the prized recruit so far for the Tigers. He is the only wide receiver currently committed to the Tigers in the 2014 class, but a huge pull for Malzahn in his first season as head coach.
