Tennessee Football Recruiting: Volunteers Offer Matt Elam

The Tennessee Volunteers extended an offer to one of the top defensive tackles from the Class of 2014 in five-star DT Matt Elam on Friday. Elam is ranked 88th on the FanSided150 Class of 2014 Football Rankings.

So far, the Elizabethtown, KY native has received other notable offers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Indiana Hoosiers, and Purdue Boilermakers.

However, the five teams receiving the most interest from Elam are Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.

Although, the recruiting experts are predicting Elam to commit to either Kentucky or Alabama. Right now, 16 out of the 23 recruiting experts on the 247 Sports Crystal Ball have him committing to Kentucky over Bama.

Because of this, some might think that Tennessee will have a long road ahead of them if they want a chance at landing Matt Elam’s commitment. However, Butch Jones has been putting together quite an impressive recruiting class this offseason for the Vols. Jones already has 24 total commitments and four commitments from recruits on the FanSided150 Class of 2014 Football Rankings.

At 6’6″, 350 pounds, Matt Elam has impeccable size for the defensive tackle position. He also is strong, athletic, and explosive, and contains a great first step and hand quickness.

The five-star recruit is currently ranked 1st in the state of Kentucky, 2nd among defensive tackles, and 10th among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
