The Louisville Cardinals struck gold in their 2014 recruiting class on back-to-back days as they earned the commitment of linebacker Isaac Stewart on Monday and defensive tackle Poona Ford on Tuesday night.
The Hilton Head, SC native commited to the Cardinals over the Tennessee Volunteers and South Carolina Gamecocks.
Ford, a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite rankings, is rated as the 22nd best defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 8 overall player from the state of South Carolina.
At 6-foot, 285 pounds, Ford does not have the ideal height and size of most defensive tackle prospects year in and year out. Yet, what Ford lacks in size he makes up for in strength and quickness. He has a great motor for flying to the football and an explosive first step.
Ford is the 24th commitment for the Cardinals for the class of 2014 and is the first four-star commitment in the entire class to the pledge to Head Coach Charlie Strong, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
As a junior last season, Ford recorded 154 tackles with 44 of those coming for losses including 10 sacks.
