Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: Tyler Ulis Picks Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats landed a solid point guard from the class of 2014 on Friday, as Tyler Ulis made the call and committed to John Calipari and the Wildcats. Ulis is one of the top 5 recruits from the state of Illinois.

Ulis had a ton of notable offers from around college basketball, but his recruitment seemed to be a three team race between the Kentucky Wildcats, Michigan State Spartans, and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Tyler Ulis’ commitment shouldn’t come as a surprise to many people. This is because all 41 of the recruiting experts on the 247Sports Crystal Ball predicted that John Calipari would get the verbal commitment from the Chicago recruit.

It’s no secret that Kentucky’s overall success with John Calipari was the main reason that Ulis chose the Wildcats. According to 247Sports, when he was asked about the commitment, Tyle Ulis said:

“Kentucky is the top basketball program in college basketball right now.”

Ulis’ commitment is No. 2 overall for the Wildcats as he joins center Karl Thomas Jr. (committed in December).

The four-star recruit is currently ranked 4th in the state of Illinois, 12th among point guards, and 52nd among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
