Like the old cliche goes, the rich keep getting richer, and in the world of college football it is the Alabama Crimson Tide that are staying “wealthy” in the recruiting business.
On Thursday afternoon 2014 five-star defensive end Da’Shawn Hand chose the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Florida Gators and Michigan Wolverines. Michigan was once considered to be the favorite in the Hand sweepstakes.
Hand is rated as the No. 4 overall player in the nation, according to the 247 Sports composite player rankings, and is the No. 1 defensive end in the country.
The commitment of Hand to the Crimson Tide now gives Alabama two top-five players committed in their 2014 class as he joins No. 1 offensive tackle Cameron Robinson.
The 6-4, 254 pound Virginia native is clocked in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.6 seconds and has all of the physical tools to be dominant at the next level. Hand’s size, strength, and ability to fire off the ball and make plays at the line of scrimmage is why he is an elite defensive end.
As a junior last season at Woodbridge High School, Hand recorded 78 tackles with 40 of those coming for losses and 16 sacks.
The Tide unanimously have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for 2014 with 23 commitments overall including three five-star recruits and an astounding 15 four-star recruits.
