Despite suffering a heart-breaking loss to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide keep getting richer in recruiting as they received some positive news on Monday morning as 2014 five-star safety Laurence Jones verbally committed to the Tide over the LSU Tigers.
Jones, rated as the No. 3 overall safety in the country according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, has been back and forth throughout the summer and fall between the Tide and Tigers as he had visited Alabama four times since July, while also visiting the Tigers three times during that time span including an official visit just as recent as Nov. 23.
The 6-2, 214 pound Louisiana native has all of the makings to be another great defender in the Tide’s secondary in the future. Not only does he have the size to play safety, but he has what every defensive back needs to be successful and that is instincts and the ability to make plays.
The commitment of Jones is the 23rd overall for Alabama in the 2014 class and gives them five five-star recruits currently committed.
The Tide undoubtedly have the No. 1 class in the nation and will end with the No. 1 overall class, while they still have a chance to land the No. 1 running back in the country, Leonard Fournette, as well as many other top recruits.
